Medical Centre

We believe that to help reduce the rate of abandonment and increase the standard of living within the Roma population’s you must supply basic health care and education. This Clinic will help prevent mothers from falling pregnant and using abandonment as a method of birth control.

medicalcentre.jpgServices provided at the clinic:

Family Doctor:  Registration with the Family Doctor will provide free medical care, consultations and medicine.  A priority is to vaccinate children with the appropriate vaccines against general child illnesses.  In addition, Hepatitis is a very common problem within the community and it would be essential to treat or vaccinate everyone against the virus. Many of the children also have various parasites and worms that can be treated. Our staff will follow this care up in the community to ensure that patients are taking medicines and properly looking after themselves and their children.

Gynaecological:  Free contraception, in different forms, will be offered to all the women, in an attempt to enable them to take control of their fertility rather than producing babies without choice.  The gynaecologist will also over see women in their pregnancies with advice, support and medical care through ultrasounds and regular check up’s. This in itself will see a major decrease in the level of abandonment.

Family Planning Centre:  Gypsy women tend to take very little care of themselves or their unborn child during their pregnancies. Our family planning centre will reduce these statistics by educating the mothers and overseeing the well being of mother and child throughout pregnancy. We will also run child care classes where we will teach the mothers how to take care of their children with regards to health education and hygiene.

Family Support: Our Social worker will run a family support programme for the families attending the clinic. This will provide the necessary support to the families including helping to en role children at school and providing the necessary equipment for this.

Further Medical Care: Through our medical contacts in Romania we will bring further medical specialists to work at the clinic so we are able to offer specialized medical consultations through out the week, this will also include visits from volunteer doctor’s abroad.
